primary requirements
- At least two or more years relevant work experience as an anaesthetic technician.
- Appropriate qualifications and degrees including able to achieve and possess the Certificate of Proficiency issued by the Society of Biomedical Technology and the Society of Anaesthetists or other relevant qualifications.
- Able to work as part of a multi disciplinary team.
- Able to work and become knowledgeable regarding the Treat of Waitangi principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and organisational skills.
- Able to work well under pressure with good organisational and handyman types of skills.
primary duties
- Responsible for the provision of technical and clinical assistance to anaesthetists as well as maintain anaesthetic, life support and resuscitation equipment.
- Assist with the preparation and application of IV solutions, ECG’s, CVP’s arterial monitoring temperature, oxygen and CO2 monitoring and for direct placement of IV cannulas, intubation, oesophageal stethoscopes under the Anaesthetists’ supervision.
- Ensure operating table and attachments are correctly positioned and patient is correctly positioned on the table.
- Assist with the application of plaster cats and tourniquets.
- Prepare local trays and equipment as well as position patients for spinal, epidural and regional anaesthetic procedures.
- Ensure patients are correctly identified in accordance with check-in procedures and medico legal requirements prior to administration of anaesthesia.
- Check and prepare anaesthetic machines and ancillary equipment to ensure they are in safe and reliable operational condition.
- Clean and check anaesthetic machines after use.
- Ensure all patient monitoring equipment is safe, reliable and in operational condition. Assist with moving patients and applying monitors.
- Clean, disinfect and sterilise all equipment when required.
- Ensure anaesthetic areas are fully stocked and cleaned.
- Actively participate in regular equipment inventory and stock ordering.

- Utilise management information systems to develop and maintain accurate information resources and cooperate with others to provide data as required.
- Participate in orientation education and buddy programmer with new staff.
- Work and actively participate in client’s Quality Assurance program by being a focus for continuing quality enhancement and excellence in practice.
- Undertake QA audits as required.
- Communicate accurate information within stated time frames to appropriate areas.
- Be directed by and communicate with management to ensure effective service delivery.
- Demonstrate individual responsibility and maintain accountability for own work practice.
- Practice on a flexible shift roster and on-call duties.
- Observe and practice safe work methods using safety equipment where it is provided.
- Report unsafe working conditions or equipment to management.
